WEEK 2: Science Theory?? Science Law?? Whattt??

Honestly, I never knew that there were differences between Science Laws & Science Theories. It was fascinating researching on these terms as it was something new to me. By the end of the lesson, I was able to see various differences between a Science law and a Science theory and their characteristics as well. Basically, a scientific law can be represented mathematically and can be used to predict an outcome whereas a science theory would encompass evidences, research, experimentation and is consistent. These are some of the characteristics to differentiate between the two. Although it was rather confusing in the beginning, but as the lesson and activities went on whereby other groups presented their findings on the differences between these two terms, my understanding of the difference between a Science theory and a Science law became clearer.

Science theory and Science law can most definitely confuse anyone if no proper time and undivided attention is given to thoroughly understand these two terms. Continuous reminders and guidance is something I will need to differentiate between these two terms as sometimes it gets very mind boggling. I am also aware that I am not the only person confused due to the fact that many of my classmates presented these two terms with some misconceptions during certain parts of their presentation.

The knowledge I have gained today has been very resourceful and meaningful to me, I will ensure that my students know the two terms which I find important when learning Science which is Science laws and Science theories at a young age so that they wouldn't be ignorant towards these terms like how I was. I would also ensure that my students are able to identify the differences between these two terms through the characteristics of a given statement or equation. I believe that these terms are important when students learn Science as they will be able to distinguish between a Science law and a Science theory instead of just agreeing mindlessly with anything they hear or read.
