The reading on “explanation” has provided me with a clear understanding of the importance of an explanation in proving a theory of a specific phenomena in Science. I understand the importance of it as the article has clearly stated and provided reasoning that an explanation is a useful indicator of truth. This means that in order to prove a theory, explanation is crucial.
Providing proper and logical explanation to my future students is going to me a difficult task. Even as an adult, many times, I expect clear and concise explanations for anything and everything regardless of what the topic is. Even during lectures, I find myself constantly asking my lecturers questions to clarify my misconceptions or confusions. Therefore, I can clearly conclude that a child would need much MORE explanation to understand a theory. As a teacher, it is most definitely a challenging task to be able to explain certain topics in an understandable manner for kids but most definitely not impossible.
As a future teacher and based on my experience during my schooling years and now in university, I will definitely place emphasis on the aspect of explaining to my students in the most understandable and simplest manner. As the article states that an explanation is given not just for explanation’s sake but for truth’s sake as well, to prove that a theory or a scientific statement is true. Hence, I personally think that being prepared with an explanation for everything beforehand is vital and that every teacher should practice this.
